« How do I Pay for Drug Rehab? | Main | Is it possible to recover from addiction without rehab? »
By Newport Coast | December 12, 2007
Some people are predisposed to addiction, there are often genetic and environmental factors working together to make an individual susceptible. Often, individuals who are diagnosed with anxiety disorders are at higher risk for being affected by alcoholism or drug addiction. When this happens, it’s an example of a co-occurring disorder - chemical dependency accompanied by one or more psychological disorders. When this is the case, it’s important to find a dual diagnosis rehab center that’s able to treat both the addiction and the underlying psychological disorder. The problem with choosing to treat only the addiction (by choosing a rehab center that isn’t a qualified dual diagnosis facility) is that the underlying disorder (i.e. anxiety) will go untreated. Upon graduating from a rehab facility that hasn’t treated the underlying disorder, it’s highly likely that an individual will get stuck back in the same cycle.

I would say, all addictions are due to anxiety. Until your anxiety is reduced, there is no way you can stop an addiction. When the source is addressed, you can then use your natural talents and innate skills to succeed and enjoy life.
