Is it possible to recover from addiction without rehab?

By Newport Coast | December 13, 2007

The short answer is yes. Some people are able to end their chemical dependency with minimal help and attending meeting like Alcoholics Anonymous. The vast majority of people, however, won’t respond well to this minimal level of treatment.

Relapse is much more common in people attempting to quit on their own. It comes down to whether or not you want to address the addiction in a matter of months or over a period of years. If you try to quit on your own, you’ll likely spend years trying to quit, with frequent relapses. Attending an outpatient rehab program is the next step up, which will increase the chances of successful recovery. For many people though, even an outpatient program isn’t enough to challenge their addictions.

Deciding to attend an inpatient rehab program is best for people who want to rid themselves of chemical dependency issues in a prompt manner. In a matter of 1-3 months, patients can begin to return to their normal lives with new tools for living healthy.

Newport Coast Recovery provides an intensive drug and alcohol rehab program for men, it’s an example of a facility that can give patients tools for getting their lives back on track.
